Nami Charges Professional Tax Bodies On Contribution To Tax Development In Nigeria

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Muhammad Nami  has called on professional bodies in the regulation of tax practice to lead conversations on matters of tax policy and tax laws in the country.

Mr. Muhammad Nami made the call yesterday while hosting a meeting of the Council Members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to discuss the implementation of an MoU on standardisation of tax practice in Nigeria.

Mr. Nami while calling for value-based leadership approach from the councils urged the professional bodies to work hand-in-hand with the Service to deepen the FIRS institutional framework through qualitative reporting and effective representation of their clients.

“Our professional bodies need to speak on matters of tax policies and tax laws especially on proposals to annual Finance Bills.

“We also urge you to help the Service to deepen institutional framework through quality reporting and effective representation of clients by our professional colleagues.

“We need to stem the tides in improving financial reporting to reduce the spate of ‘copy and paste’ financial reporting system as we experience today.” Mr. Nami stated.

Speaking further, the FIRS Executive Chairman who is also a Fellow of two of the three professional bodies explained that on the part of the FIRS, the tax authority had adopted renewed strategies to tackle financial reporting concerns.

Mr. Nami noted that the FIRS had created new departments such as the Intelligence, Strategic Data Mining and Analysis Department, the Special Crimes Department, the Tax Incentives Management Department and the Emerging and Special Taxes Department, which he stated are at the forefront of unravelling financial reporting issues through data mining.

He also noted that the FIRS alongside State Inland Revenue Services are collaborating with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to build a databank to improve tax investigation.

Other strategies include the accreditation of tax consultants and auditors in the FIRS, the review of data from Automatic Exchange of Information as well as increased enforcement actions.

The Presidents of the three bodies, Professor Benjamin Osisioma of ANAN, Mr. Tijjani Musa Isa of ICAN and Mr. Adesina Adedayo of the CITN commended the FIRS Executive Chairman for showing leadership in pushing for and enabling a resolution of the squabbles between the three bodies.

While thanking Mr. Nami for his leadership, the Professor Osisioma noted that failure to cooperate amongst the three bodies would lead to chaos in tax practice regulation in the country.

“If we fail to cooperate and collaborate, we would destroy what we are trying to build,” he stated.

APC Govt is Asking Nigerians for This One Favour to Defeat Insecurity, Seven Years After Coming to Power

After grappling for the past seven years to fulfill one of its campaign promises, which is tackling insecurity head on, the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is banking on President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor to continue with the herculean task in 2023.

Accordingly, the governing party is planning to implicitly ask for more time to fulfill its campaign promise by reintroducing the issue of security in its campaign for the 2023 general election.

National vice chairman of the party (North West), Mallam Salihu Lukman, who disclosed this yesterday, said the issue of security will be the front banner in its agenda for the 2023 general election and beyond.

Lukman stated this when he led zonal officials in the North West geopolitical zone to meet with the party leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and  other party stakeholders in the state.

The meeting, according to a statement he personally signed, is in continuation of the party’s fact-finding tour on how to sustain the tempo in areas the party “is doing excellently well.”

The idea, he noted, is to also “improve on areas that the party has built something to stand upon and re-strategise for few gray areas to be addressed, adding that the APC “has listened to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Sokoto State through the stakeholders who represent the interests of their people.”

Lukman listed the current security challenges “bedeviling the zone and the entirety of North, particularly Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Kebbi States, among other states of the country,” as part of the matters discussed at the meeting.

He said as an agent of the people as well as that of the party, he would join the party’s elders such as Senator Wamakko to take the matter to the appropriate authority with all sense of commitments, adding that “security issue will be the front banner of the party’s agenda for 2023 and beyond.”

On his part, the APC leader in Sokoto State, Senator Wamakko expressed delight over the manner in which the party is operating at the zonal level, even as he pledged support for the zonal structure of the party in whatever capacity it needs him.

In 2015 President Buhari and the APC had premised their campaigns on three key areas affecting the country – corruption, insecurity and revamping the economy.

Most Nigerians who were already overwhelmed by these major challenges, especially the spate of insecurity, the rising rate of unemployment and the increasing corruption, had voted the APC massively, believing that Buhari would fulfill all the campaign promises.

In 2019, Buhari and the APC replicated these promises during the re-election campaign and asked for more understanding from Nigerians.

Even though the three campaign promises under the change agenda were yet to be fulfilled, Nigerians still re-elected Buhari for a second term of four years in 2019.

Proof of Primate Ayodele's 2021 Warning on President Buhari’s Convoy Attack

‘Heaven and Earth will pass away but none of the word of God shall go unfulfilled’, no matter how long, what God has said will always come to pass.

Nigerians were shocked yesterday to read about the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy that saw two security operatives badly injured on their way to the president’s hometown in Daura, Katsina state.

According to the presidential spokesman who confirmed the attack, they were the advance team of the president who is billed to arrive at a later date to celebrate Sallah.

Though sad, this unfortunate incident has confirmed the prophecy of popular Nigerian prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele who has warned President Buhari severally especially on the issue of insecurity and had also categorically stated that he foresees an attack on the president’s convoy.

This is what obstinacy and disregard for the word of God has led the government of the day. In the same 2021 when the man of God released some prophecies about the state of the country, the president’s aide, Femi Adesina launched a futile attack on Primate Ayodele’s person, calling him names and now that these prophecies have been fulfilled one after the other, where is Femi Adesina? Probably licking his wounds. As a matter of fact, Femi Adesina needs to apologize to Primate Ayodele for speaking ill against his ministry all because he wanted to satisfy his pay masters.

There are proven records on the internet, no man of God said that the presidential convoy will be attacked apart from Primate Ayodele. Even when he said it, it seemed unbelievable because attacking a president’s convoy has a lot of meaning, if a presidential convoy can be attacked, it’s synonymous to terrorists taking over a country and worse still, no arrest has been made up till now.

The situation in Nigeria needs an urgent divine intervention, there is nothing to say than to go on our knees as Christians, muslims, traditional worshippers to pray for divine intervention because our security has been messed up.

No one envisaged that this incident would come up except Primate Ayodele who warned the government against it, now that it has happened, can’t the government go to this man of God for solutions to the dangers the country has gotten into? Going by his several prophecies that have come to pass. He forewarned the high rate of kidnapping, increase in fuel price, high exchange rate of dollar, attacks on military formations that have all happened. Why can’t the government reach out to him for solutions? It doesn’t matter if they believe in him or not, 2023 is around the corner and they have to give it all it takes to ensure these menaces end.

We can say there are no prophet in this world anymore but I can categorically say that Primate Ayodele is a prophet God is talking to at this moment, I can’t say about tomorrow but as it stands, there is no prophet that has prophesied like this man of God, I’m surprised at this presidential convoy attacked that would never have come to the mind of anyone and this is a proof that flesh and blood didn’t reveal it to him.

There are other deadly events Primate Ayodele has warned about, some are yet to come to pass but it will be so unfortunate if the government allows them to happen. I recommend that the government immediately reach out to Primate Ayodele for solutions to these crises in the country.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of APC-USA, Professor Adesegun Labinjo, the committee is headed by Dr. Ekanem Umo and has Princess Titi Arojojoye as the Vice Chairwoman. Professor Labinjo believed that Asiwaju Tinubu will give Nigerians a new breath of life by tackling and ending the security woes of the country which will in turn lead to the quick revamping of the economy. “NIgeria needs a very robust reform and a new direction to fight insecurity and corruption, which we believe Asiwaju will achieve in his first term in office”, Labinjo said.

Professor Labinjo said that the APC-USA will drum up international support for Asiwaju Tinubu, and resist and counter any attempt to disparage his name or tarnish his character.

Professor Labinjo called on all Nigerians to vote massively for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election for the transformation, restructuring and rapid development of NIgeria.

2022 FIFA World Cup: Will Milla’s World Cup Record Stand Forever?

One of the most remarkable records in FIFA World Cup history belongs to an African football legend: Roger Milla of Cameroon, who holds the distinction of being the oldest goal scorer in the tournament’s history.

As we count down to the most watched football competition in the world, DStv and GOtv customers can look forward to viewing the tournament set to run from 21 November to 18 December on SuperSport.

He initially set the mark at 38 years of age when he scored four goals for the Indomitable Lions in their remarkable run to the quarterfinals of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. But four years later, at USA 1994, Milla went even further.

When introduced as a substitute in Cameroon’s final Group B match against Russia in Stanford, he became the oldest player ever to take part in a World Cup match (a record that has since been beaten, first by Colombia’s Faryd Mondragon at Brazil 2014 and then by Egypt’s Essam El Hadary at Russia 2018).

He also struck home a goal in the opening minute of the second half, therefore becoming the oldest goal scorer ever at a World Cup. His record (42 years 39 days) stands to this day and could well remain in place forever, given that football has become a more and more athletically-demanding sport, therefore reducing the space for older players to thrive at the highest level.

“I’m still very proud of [the record] today,” Milla told FIFA. “To my mind, that goal and that record showed the people who doubted me that I still had it in me, despite my age. Physically, I wasn’t 100 per cent, but I still had my technique. It’s a lovely record.”

As to whether his record will ever be eclipsed, Milla has his doubts: “Nothing’s impossible but it’ll be very difficult to beat. Football’s a very different sport today and it’s really hard to see anyone other than a keeper getting capped at the age of 42. And, as we all know, keepers don’t score very often. I think my record has got a few good years left in it yet.”

Milla is also hopeful that African football will break the glass ceiling of a quarterfinal showing at the World Cup – something his Cameroon team achieved as a first in 1990, and since equalled by Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.

“Senegal and Ghana showed that it was possible. We’re still some way behind European football so it’s going to be difficult to get there, but I’m still optimistic,” said the football legend.

“I get the feeling that the current generation of players sometimes lack confidence and determination, like us at the time. We have to believe in ourselves if we want to put in those kinds of performances at every World Cup.”
