Senator Tokunbo Abiru Empowers 1,250 Market Women With Grants Worth N62.5m, Supports Rural Farmers, Unveils Stadium, Market

It was a day of the harvest of dividends of democracy in Epe, a fishing town in the eastern flank of Lagos State.

Residents braved the unabated Thursday downpour to receive Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was in the town for the inauguration of key constituency projects facilitated and delivered by the lawmaker representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru.

The Governor commissioned a 960-capacity recreational facility built by the lawmaker with the support of Office of the Senior Special Assistance to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The recreational project comprises a football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts, administrative offices and change rooms.

Sanwo-Olu also inaugurated the remodelled Oluwo Fish Market, which was upgraded by Sen. Abiru to boost the trade and modernise vocation.

The fish market was expanded to accommodate 240 open stalls, 80 lock-up stalls and five open trading areas. It also has 12 convenience facilities and four new offices for market leaders.

The projects, Sanwo-Olu said, are ones that will have direct impacts on the socio-economic reality of the town, praising Sen. Abiru for “diligently” representing the district in the National Assembly.

The Governor said: “Over the last 18 months, Senator Abiru has dutifully delivered the dividends of democracy in several areas and on multiple fronts, not just in the primary mandate of law-making, but also in terms of life-changing empowerment and endowment.

“Today, we are here to commission a number of infrastructure projects by him, some of which are facilitated through the Office of the Special Assistant to President Buhari on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), occupied an esteemed daughter of Lagos, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.”

Sanwo-Olu expressed his delight on the benefit of the projects to the residents, noting that the market project was commerce-oriented, designed to improve the livelihood and earning capacity of beneficiaries. The recreational facility, the Governor said, is a project that would positively affect people’s lifestyle and translate to health benefits, as well as improved quality of life.

The Governor said the lawmaker had lived up to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and to the legacy of transformation instituted in Lagos since 1999.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to see the projects as public resources entrusted in their care, urging them to productively utilise the facilities with the utmost sense of responsibility.

Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to appeale to Epe residents on the pace of work on the ongoing reconstruction of Eleko to Epe T-Junction, pointing out that construction activities on the highway remained on course and would be scaled up to meet the completion deadline.

The Governor said the ongoing rehabilitation of Oke Iwo-Marina Road in Epe town would be completed and commissioned in the next two months, adding that the State Government had awarded the contract for the construction of Mosafejo Road in Agbowa.

He said: “This is also what our great party, the APC, stands for, bringing a better life for all our people, regardless of their age, gender, religion or income class. Our goal is to ensure that no one is left behind, as we spread development around Lagos.”

Also at the event, Abiru empowered about 1,250 market women and traders with the sum of N50,000 business grants. Market leaders across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the district selected beneficiaries from each of the councils.

The lawmaker extended the empowerment to 200 farmers who received hand-planters, along with business grants of N20,000 each.

Abiru said he took up the assignment with a determination and passion to improve the lots his constituents and elevate the socio-economic condition of the people, thereby complementing the efforts of the State Government.

Aside sponsoring 13 private member bills and co-sponsored three other bills, which included motions, the lawmaker said he had prioritised three key pillars of legislative role, empowerment and endowment to deliver dividends of democracy to his constituents.

He said: “I publicly acknowledge and appreciate the magnanimity of the presidency, through the Office of SDGs, for the projects we are commissioning today. These projects, which also include support for market women and rural farmers, are part of the fulfillment of social contract I solemnly had with the people of Lagos East Senatorial District while seeking their mandate in 2020.

“The modest achievements I have recorded in the last 18 months in the saddle as a Senator will be sustained with more interventions that will directly impact the lives of our people. I shall maintain this daunting tempo of leadership and development, while also assuring my constituents of effective and quality representation in line with my ‘Doing Good’ mantra.”

Orelope-Adefulire applauded the lawmaker for making women empowerment as cardinal focus of his activities, noting that such action remained key to strengthen inclusion.

She said the Office of the SDGs in the presidency had facilitated rehabilitation of more than 10 schools and four healthcare projects in the district.

Inaugural football match was played on the pitch between Tokunbo Abiru Football Club and and Epe Alaro United.

Untold Risk of Eating Pork, Second Most Consumed Meat in the World

Pork is the second most consumed meat in the world, accounting for about 35% of global meat consumption.

China, the United States and the European Union are the largest pork producers, which together account for about 80% of the world's pork production.

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published a study on the levels of antibiotics in edible meat, which showed that pork had significantly higher levels of antibiotics than chicken, beef and lamb.

The reason why antibiotics are used in the breeding process is mainly because antibiotics can reduce the disease and mortality of pigs, and at the same time, antibiotics can rapidly increase the weight of pigs.

About 27.1% of medically important antibiotics are used in the pig industry.

According to related reports, the antibiotic content of pork in is twice that of chicken and five times that of beef.

At present, the general consensus in the scientific community is that a large number of antibiotics entering the body will increase the resistance of bacteria, which will bring potential risks to health.

Buhari: Nigeria'll Fill Oil Shortage Gap to Europe Caused by Russia/Ukraine War

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria is ready to fill the natural gas gaps in Europe predicated by the current Russian-Ukrainian war.

The President spoke about the country’s readiness Thursday in his statement on areas of cooperation between Nigeria and Portugal delivered at the Presidential Palace in Lisbon.

President Buhari, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said with over 200 million mainly young people, Nigeria is ready to be the hub of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA).

He urged Portugal to consider Nigeria as a valued and trusted partner in Africa at a time the world was going through turbulent times.

President Buhari identified five key areas of cooperation and collaboration capable of moving both countries forward, including oil and gas, tourism and hospitality industry, air travel, security and joint commission.

On oil and gas, President Buhari said with the current Russian-Ukraine war, increased cooperation in oil and gas between the two countries has become vital to avoid crisis in the demand and supply chain, even as Nigeria is already a major supplier of gas to Portugal.

On air travel, the President emphasized the need to sign a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) and quickly establish a direct air link between the two countries.

President Buhari, while affirming Nigeria’s renewed commitment towards the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad and the Sahel Region, told his Portuguese counterpart that Nigeria would welcome the support of the Portuguese Government through intelligence and information sharing, weapons and training of security personnel of member states.

He also stressed the need to establish a Joint Commission to promote the full realization of the objectives of bilateral relations.

Revealed! What Peter Obi Plans to Do with Northern Nigeria if Elected President

"I do not hate the north"

Valentine Obienyem, the media aide to the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has denied reports that his principal is a religious bigot that hates northerners.

Obienyem in a statement on Thursday said some faceless groups sponsored by political opponents are responsible for spreading falsehood about Obi due to his growing popularity.

The Southeast star politician said, if elected president in 2023, he would make the North the nation's agricultural hub due its vast land.

The statement comes in reaction to earlier reports which claimed Obi didn’t respond appropriately to the killing of some northerners in Anambra State back in March 2006.

The article also further alleged that Obi requested the DSS to remove some Hausa traders near his house and ejected some northern traders from their space.

“Obi is desirous of becoming the President and he has been going around telling people the problems of the country and how he hopes to solve them. He expects other contestants to do the same rather than sponsoring falsehoods to pitch him against the people,” read the statement in part.

“During his tour of the North, Obi, for example, made it clear that expanse of land in the North for agricultural purposes are a great gift to Nigeria, which if properly managed, would be able to feed the nation and for export.”

Tinubu Used 'Juju' To Win APC Presidential Ticket -Ondo Pastor

Reverend ShalomKelvin Akinbo, the Head Pastor of Doers Nation International Church, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has suggested that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), used “strange powers” to secure the ruling party’s ticket.

Reverend ShalomKelvin, however, prophesised that the former Lagos governor will not be the one that would succeed President Muhammadu Buhari when the retired military officer hands over to his successor on 29 May 2023.

Rev. ShalomKelvin, who made the prophecy while addressing his congregation on the ‘Mountain of Prayer’ in Akure, said Tinubu bewitched the Presidency and the top hierarchy of the ruling APC.

“There was a man who bewitched the entire city of Samaria and to him they gave heed that he himself was of a great power but one time he was exposed and humiliated openly and that is what is going to happen to him as I saw in the vision,” said the cleric.

“Sometimes people ask questions like ‘what happened why a word given not come to pass?’ Read John 11:4 where Jesus said ‘this sickness is not unto death.’ Yet the man died and he had to bring him back to life to continue his mission and fulfilled his purpose.

“A word was given to Abraham that he would be the father of nations but before the fulfilment of that word he did something wrong by sleeping with Hagar his maid and she brought forth Ishmael. A year later, the prophecy was fulfilled. God’s words always come to pass.

“What played out before the ruling party’s convention was a manipulation from hell. The people bowed to the god of this world. The ticket given to Mr Bola Tinubu is a stolen ticket. It’s a stolen mandate and would be taken from him.

“Mr Tinubu bewitched the Presidency and the people and took another man’s mandate overnight."

2023: Yahaya Bello, Ahmed Lawan Listed for Bola Tinubu's Running Mate Slot

Sources within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have said that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, rejected a proposal to select either Senate President Ahmad Lawan or Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello as his running mate for the 2023 presidential race.

Our source learned that Tinubu’s rivals in the APC presidential primary, Lawan and Bello, have been pleading with the president and other key figures to persuade the former governor of Lagos state to pick them as his running mate.

While Tinubu won the primary with 1,271 votes, Lawan polled 152 votes while Yahaya Bello got 47 votes.

Our source, a former Minister in the South-Western part of the country said though Tinubu has no issues with picking a Muslim as his running mate, he flatly rejected both of them as they are direct contestants with him and they have their minds set on becoming president.

“Yes both men (Lawan and Bello) have been making moves to be nominated as vice-presidential candidates but I can assure you that Asiwaju is not considering them at all.

He met with President Buhari shortly before his trip to France and I strongly believe that must have been part of their discussions as both men have been lobbying the president to prevail on Asiwaju to consider them”.

“Even those of who are associates of Asiwaju Tinubu are against their choice as both of them are not strong personalities that can bring the needed votes in the North” he said.

Tinubu who used Ibrahim Masari as a placeholder in his nomination form to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stated last weekend at the 60th birthday of the Speaker of the House of Reps, Femi Gbajabiamila that he is still in a search of a running mate.

I've Also Lost My Primary School, Teachers’ College Certificates -Tinubu’s VP Placeholder, Masari Confesses to INEC

Mr Kabir Ibrahim Masari, the running mate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his school certificates are missing.

This comes amid the controversy surrounding the supposed loss of Tinubu’s credentials.

Amidst this controversy, his running mate Mr Masari also filed a sworn affidavit for the loss of some original documents to the nation's electoral body.

The affidavit the APC vice-presidential candidate submitted to INEC showed that he misplaced vital documents including the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of one plot KT 17522 in Katsina state, his Grade II certificate from Katsina Teachers College and his primary school certificate.

An affidavit sworn by Masari at the Supreme Court and submitted to INEC on July 17, 2022, read partly, “That sometimes (sic) in January 2021, while on transit within Wuse Area, FCT-Abuja, I discovered that my original Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of Plot, No KT 17522, GRA Katsina, Katsina State; Certificate of Kaduna State Development Centre from 1994 – 1995; Grade II Certificate from Katsina Teachers’ College (KTC) from 1978 – 1983 and First Leaving School Certificate issued by Masari Primary, Katsina State, from 1972 – 1978, got lost.”

“That all efforts made to trace the documents proved abortive hence this affidavit,” the affidavit added.

The electoral law mandates candidates to submit their personal credentials that will be published for public scrutiny ahead of elections.

The APC had submitted Masari's name as Tinubu's running mate for the 2023 presidential election to meet the June 17 deadline given by INEC for its submission. Tinubu, however, later stated that he was still looking for a running mate, confirming reports that Masari's name was submitted as a placeholder, pending when the party would find a running mate for Tinubu.

IBEDC Appeals to Customers to Pay Bills, Says Tariffs are Fixed by NERC

The Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc has appealed to its esteemed customers with huge outstanding to pay their bills. This is to avoid any kind of interruption due to the ongoing mass disconnection exercise.

A statement signed by the Chief Operating Officer of the Company (COO), Engr. John Ayodele said IBEDC is embarking on a mass disconnection exercise, because of payment apathy by customers, which is adversely affecting quality service delivery.

“We are retooling our revenue drive strategy to ensure that the monies that have been left uncollected through huge debts, non-payment of bills, underpayment of bills, meter bye-passing, use of illicit meters and energy theft are raked in to enable us to meet our obligations to the customers and the market operators”.

As we all know there has been a major drop in the electricity generated across the country that has invariably caused the reduced power supply to our valued customers; this drop in generation from the GENCOs is also traceable to their inability to pay for gas, which is denominated in dollars.  When customers do not pay for electricity consumed, it has a ripple effect, as we cannot service the electricity value chain.

The COO however urged customers with disputed bills to lodge their complaints at the nearest IBEDC Office to seek redress or adjustments in cases where the claims are genuine and verifiable. Furthermore, he pleaded with customers to obtain their meters under the Meter Asset Provider Scheme (MAP) to put a stop to disputes over billing.

“The meters will record your accurate consumption, so please apply for a pre-paid meter if you are unmetered, if your meters are obsolete or faulty; and if you have a new building.  Visit any IBEDC office in your location or go online to apply for the meters on msms.ibedc.com or www.ibedc.com” he said.

He also explained that customers who purchase meters under the MAP scheme will get their monies back in due course through energy units. On the issue of tariff rates that have generated arguments in some quarters, Engr. Ayodele said only the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has the power to determine what customers should pay for electricity based on their hours of supply.

Lagos House of Assembly

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, and members of the House on Monday showered encomium on Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who recently clocked 60.

The members of the House spoke during plenary describing Gbajabiamila as one who has brought pride to Lagos State.

Speaking about Gbajabiamila's legislative acumen, Rt. Hon. Obasa described the Speaker of the House of Representatives as “a legislator who carries out his duty with passion and dedication. He has sacrificed his own personal interest in the interest of the people.

"You will recall during the reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); he was awarded a national honour, but because he had reservations the way and manner the country was being managed then, he rejected the offer.

"This shows that he has always been with the people and serves in the interest of the people. He has also contributed a lot to the development of legislative institutions in this country."

The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk Barr. Olalekan Onafeko to transmit a congratulatory letter to the celebrant.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, in his congratulatory message described Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila as an example of what a legislator should be.

"He has shown that the older the wine, the better the legislature," he said.

Majority Leader of the House, Hon Sanai Agunbiade, described Gbajabiamila is a man that is charismatic of the office he occupies.

"He is calm, composed and each time you watch him preside, you would know an experienced legislator is presiding," he said.

The Deputy Whip of the House, Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara, described Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila as a great leader who has brought developmental projects to Surulere constituency.

"He is a very outstanding man. His success cannot be far-fetched as this trait can be seen in his mother who was once a Local Government chairperson and performed very well during her time," she said.

In his contribution, Hon. Temitope Adewale from Ifako-Ijaye said Speaker Gbajabiamila had shown to the world that there is credence in legislature.

"We are celebrating a man from Lagos who has rose from the ranks to become the 'number four citizen' in the country," he said.

While lending his voice to the debate, Hon. Sa'ad Olumo opined that "Gbajabiamila had done everything in terms of quality representation. He has great impact on us in his capacity and representation."

Primate Ayodele’s Prophecy On CJN Tanko Muhammad’s Incapacity Comes To Pass

Nigerians were greeted with the news of the chief justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad resigning from his position willingly, citing health related issues as reasons behind his actions.

This was an unexpected development as the CJN and top judiciary officials were still in an argument last week when the former was accused of diverting funds for his children’s political ambition.

However, records have it that popular prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele had revealed in January 2021 that the incapacity of the chief justice of Nigeria will soon be exposed as he had seen it in the spiritual realm.

Over one year after, the truth about the incapacity of the chief justice of Nigeria has finally been exposed as prophesied by Primate Ayodele and surprisingly, it was exposed by the chief justice himself when he can no longer hide it.

This has fulfilled the prophecy of Primate Elijah Ayodele, just as many prophecies of his has been fulfilled to God’s glory.

In Nigeria and Africa, there is no prophet that is as vocal as Primate Ayodele and he has a record of prophesying on issues no other man of God dares talk about. His prophetic releases hit the internet almost on a daily basis apart from the new year prophecy and his annual book of prophecy titled Warnings to the nations.

E-Commerce Platforms Empowering Retail Businesses

Following the data from the National Bureau of Statistics as well as the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), that Micro and Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) account for about 96 percent of registered Nigerian businesses that employs about 75% of the national labour force, and contributes about 48% to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), it is clear that the Micro and Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) form the bedrock of the economy.

It is as well worthy to note that e-commerce platforms operators in Nigeria are in no little way contributing to the promotion of MSMEs, as Alerzo, a leading e-commerce platform in Nigeria is making strides in empowering retail business owners with its various innovations including loan provisions.

With its cashless payment and lending platform – Alerzopay, Alerzo provides retailers, regardless of their economic situations, with working capital to keep their stores running and to drive financial inclusion to the excluded informal retailers.

With the advanced POS terminals that run on Alerzopay platform, retailers can act as agents: processing customer deposits and withdrawals to purchase goods or use as spending cash and process value added services such as utility bill payments, etc.

The integration of Alerzopay and the use of the POS machines in their customers' businesses improves their overall profit margins, as retailers receive commissions for each transaction carried out on the platform.

Nigerian Bakers Give Notice to Downtool *"there may be no N500 bread soon"

The Association of Master Bakers and Caterer of Nigeria has given a notice to embark on a nationwide strike due to the the unexpected increase in bakery materials and the ignore of the Federal Government in the matter.

The association made this known in a communiqué issued by its National Executive Council following a meeting of the council held in Abuja.

The communique which was obtained by newsmen on Friday, threatened that bakers would withdraw their services across the country from July 13, 2022.

They stated that the cost of flour, sugar and other materials used in bakery business has skyrocketed beyond the reach of many bakers.

A member of the bakers' association who didn't want to be identified by name, told The Status News that the lowest bread's could go for N1,000 should the bakers continue the production without the necessary government intervention.

Already, the smallest loaf of bread in Nigeria goes for N500 while the biggest costs as high as N1,200. This is against N350 and N750 each the cost before the increase in March 2022.

Soon, there won't be N500 bread, the source declared.

The bakers also stated that efforts to get government’s intervention in the matter had been proved abortive, as there have not been a positive response from the concerned ministries, departments and agencies of government.

The National President, Mansur Umar, who signed the communique, stated that the council reviewed the “neglect of the Federal Government in addressing the challenges facing our sector as captured in our letters acknowledged by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Federal Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Nigeria and unproductive intervention of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“Increase in prices of bakery materials especially flour and sugar having reached unprecedented levels, for example, flour is now between N25,000 and N27,500, so also other ingredients.

“The National Wheat Cultivation Committee already constituted is yet to be inaugurated after over one year. NAFDAC, SON, NESREA have turned the bakers into money making machine by charging our members outrageous levies even at this very challenging moment.

“Consequently, the NEC in session resolved that all zones, state, Local Governments and units of our association should commence full mobilisation of our members nationwide to embark on withdrawal of services starting from Wednesday July 13, 2022 for an initial period of two weeks.”

They, however, noted that its “members should await further directives.”

It was learnt that the hike in bakery materials was what led to the recent increase in the cost of bread and other items produced from flour.
