Ogun Incoming Governor, Dapo Abiodun, To Scrap OgunPoly, Moshood Abiola University

There is the possibility the governor-elect of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will scrap Ogun State Polytechnic and Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH), two of his predecessor, incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s legacies in the education sector when he is sworn in on May 29, 2019.

An inside source disclosed to The Status

that one of Abiodun’s plans to save the dying Moshood Abiola Polytechnic was to discard some of the educational policies of Amosun including scrapping the Ogun Poly and the university he recently established.

The source said that the governor-elect has set up a committee of six professors to look into the issue and ensure that things are returned to the status quo regarding the two institutions.

The governor, the source stressed, specifically wants the MAPOLY policy reviewed and MAUSTECH scrapped.

In September 2017, the two new institutions, Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) and the Ogun State Polytechnic, took off in Abeokuta and Ipokia respectively.

Things have began looking positive for ailing veteran Yoruba actor, Mr. Dayo Akinpelu, as a popular Nigerian business lawyer, Barrister Ope Banwo, just doled out the sum of N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira) for his treatment. The Ikorodu, Lagos born actor popularly known as Alabi Yellow suffered partial stroke in October 2018 few days after losing his wife.

According to a source in the know of the kind gesture, Banwo, a digital business consultant and entertainment executive, was moved reading and watching video online about the plight of the 62 years old thespian, especially with the fact that the loss of his wife must have triggered his sudden sickness. The source added that Banwo promised to do more once other Nigerians started responding well to the ailing actor’s plea.

“He doesn’t even know Alabi Yellow. He has never met him. He is not even in Nigeria as we speak. He was only touched when he watched the video of his appeal on the internet being a man who naturally cares for people. This was only a token he has sent. He wishes to do more when others start responding well,” the source noted.   

Sources said that the actor went public with an appeal for aid when his failing health was going for the worse and little or no help was coming from his industry.

Lagos Asks Occupants of Weak Buildings to Relocate

The Lagos State Government has urged occupants of marked distressed buildings across the State to immediately vacate them pending the arrival of the demolition team of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

Also, relief and resettlement centres have been opened to accommodate those affected.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye made the appeal just as a distressed three-storey building located on 50, Kakawa Street, Campos, Lagos Island collapsed on Monday without any casualty.

Ogunleye said, “The building in question had been identified as distressed by the officers of the LASBCA and all the necessary statutory notices had been duly served. It was one of the defective structures marked for removal by the Agency.

“Fortunately, occupants had been evacuated before the incidents occurred. Immediately, the Lagos State Rescue Team and LASBCA were alerted and they moved to site promptly to check all adjoining buildings so as to evacuate the occupants to avoid any further hazards.”

Already 25 buildings have been removed by LASBCA as the Government has stepped up measures to rid the State of distressed buildings so as to prevent loss of lives and property due to sudden collapse in the State.
