'Excessive' Security For Seyi Tinubu: How It Is Understood *by Folorunsho Tahir Hamsat

The appropriateness or otherwise of security protection for a president's family can be a subject of public debate. This debate is centred on the complex challenge of ensuring the safety of people connected to the presidency while being mindful of public accountability and the effective use of government resources.

Seyi Tinubu

This writer will focus solely on the provision of security for the president's family, as understood, in layman's terms.

Recently at a public function, President Tinubu's son, Seyi's 'excessive' security escort was criticized by Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. The respected leader had argued that such resources were needed elsewhere.

From my study, it is standard international practice for a country's president's immediate family, including the children, to receive significant security protection. This is due to the high profile of the president and the potential national security risks that could arise from threats and various forms of harm to the president's family members.

Nigeria is currently confronted by multiple security challenges like kidnapping and banditry, with the primary threat coming from the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA) and Boko Haram. On that score, threatening or harming a president's son, daughter or wife could be used to blackmail the president and compromise his ability to perform state duties, thereby creating a national crisis. Thus, the goal of 'excessively' protecting the president's family is to ensure the stability and continuity of the president's function and, by extension, the nation, by mitigating high-level threats to the First Family.

I am not familiar with the local laws on the protection of private individuals; but, based on my research, in developed countries whose model of democracy Nigeria especially practices, such as the US, the provision of security by agencies like the DSS to the president's immediate family is a federal law, not a discretionary choice.

The president's family members often attend public schools or travel, requiring extensive, pre-planned security measures and advance team to ensure their safety in such environments. Even the US law specifies that children of former presidents receive protection until they are 16 years old, unless declined.

 Hamsat

In other climes, a sitting president can issue an executive order to extend protection to members of his family, including individuals not automatically covered by law.

I will support this argument with two empirical evidence. Just before departing the White House finally in January 2025 after the expiration of his constitutional two terms as president of the United States, Joe Biden extended protection for his adult children through the next seven months via an executive order. That presidential order was critiqued by his successor, Donald Trump, and subsequently revoked by him. However, Trump himself did the same for his four adult children and two of their spouses before his first term ended in 2021, when they were given six months additional protection beyond their stay in the government house.

Thus, my interpretation of this subject is that, if it's not unusual for a president before he leaves office to authorize an extended period of protection for their immediate family members, giving them a full time protection while holding the power is justified and not inappropriate.

Benin Republic Coup Leader, Pascal Tigri, on The Run

Colonel Pascal Tigri, identified as the leader of the mutineers who briefly seized Benin Republic’s national television station on Sunday, is currently on the run, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu. Onanuga disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Sunday.

Benin Republic mutineers

Authorities in Benin have, however, arrested several other members of the group after defence and security forces successfully thwarted the attempted coup.

Benin’s Interior Minister, Alassane Seidou, later appeared on national television to confirm that the mutiny had been contained.

“Early on Sunday morning, 7 December 2025, a small group of soldiers launched a mutiny aimed at destabilising the state and its institutions,” Seidou said.

“Faced with this situation, the Beninese armed forces and their leadership, true to their oath, remained committed to the republic. Their response allowed them to retain control of the situation and foil the attempt.

“The government therefore urges the population to go about their activities as normal.”

President Talon

The failed coup attempt triggered heightened security measures across Cotonou before loyal forces restored calm and regained full control of key state institutions.

In another statement, attributed to President Tinubu and conveyed by Onanuga, the presidency said “reports indicate that the National Guard has regained control of key locations, surrounding the television station and containing the mutineers”.

“According to 24 Hours in Benin, negotiations are currently ongoing with the group, which remains holed up inside the station,” it said.

“Authorities say the situation is now under control, with efforts underway to fully restore order and stability.”

Visitors Barred from Seeing Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto Prison

Three weeks after the transfer of the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to the Sokoto Correctional Centre, security around the facility has remained unusually tight.

Kanu was found guilty of all seven counts of terrorism preferred against him by the Federal Government and was sentenced to life imprisonment on November 20.

Nnamdi Kanu

He was taken to Sokoto after the court expressed concern for his safety, noting that the Kuje Correctional Facility might not be suitable for him due to previous prison breaks recorded there.

When journalists visited the Sokoto prison along Marina Road on Friday, an Armoured Personnel Carrier and heavily armed security personnel were seen stationed at strategic points around the premises.

Attempts to access the facility were firmly rejected, as security officers insisted that no journalist would be allowed entry without clearance from the national headquarters.

A security officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that several Igbo associations in the state had recently attempted to visit Kanu but were denied access.

“We are not allowed to let people come here to see him. If we do that, the security here will be compromised.

“Only his family members and his lawyers are permitted. We also allow certain high-profile visitors. For instance, when the Abia State Governor visited last week with his Attorney-General, they were granted limited access.”

He also cautioned against taking photographs around the facility, citing security concerns.

APC Disqualifies Omisore, Five Others from Osun Guber Race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified a former deputy governor and ex-National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore; another former deputy governor, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi; and four other governorship aspirants from participating in its December 13, 2025, primary election in Osun State.

Others affected by the disqualification are Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.

In its report submitted on Friday to the party’s organisation department, the seven-member screening committee chaired by Barrister Obinna Uzor announced that only two aspirants, Hon. Mulikat Adeola Jimoh and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, met all requirements to contest the primary.

According to the committee, both aspirants “fulfilled regulatory conditions as stipulated by the party’s guidelines, the Constitution and the Electoral Act”, thereby earning full clearance.

However, the panel referred the six disqualified aspirants to the National Working Committee (NWC) for a final review and possible clearance before the shadow poll.

The committee revealed in its six-page report, signed by all members, that it acted on a petition submitted by the Osun APC Renewal Group.

The petition had urged the disqualification of two aspirants on the grounds that they failed to meet the mandatory nominator requirements set by the APC Constitution and guidelines.

The panel stated that “upon careful review, the Committee found the issues raised in the petition to be weighty, substantial and germane to the integrity of the screening process.” It added that, in the interest of fairness and uniform application of the rules, the same standards were applied to all nine aspirants.

“Accordingly, the Committee extended the same scrutiny to all nine aspirants, ensuring that every sponsor (nominator) of an aspirant was assessed on the basis of compliance with Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the Guidelines,” the report noted, saying this was to preserve a level playing field and uphold internal party democracy.

At the end of the two-day exercise, the committee confirmed that only Jimoh and Oyebamiji “satisfactorily met all constitutional and guideline requirements of the APC, including proper nomination by the requisite number of fully registered, financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area.”

It observed that Senators Omisore and Omoworare and Babayemi, Ogunbiyi, Alabi, Adegoke and Oralusi failed to meet the mandatory condition of being nominated by at least five financially compliant members from each local government, as required under Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the 2025 Governorship Primary Guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Screening Appeal Committee chaired by Senator Tola Odebiyi is scheduled to sit on Saturday in Abuja to hear petitions from the seven disqualified aspirants and any other aggrieved party stakeholders.

Eedris Abdulkarim Reportedly Snubs Actor Saidi Balogun at Abuja Birthday Party

The Federal Capital Territory was the setting for high-octane drama on Tuesday night as music icon Eedris Abdulkarim turned a celebrity birthday bash into an impromptu political press conference, stunning guests and delivering a direct, scorching message to Aso Rock via veteran actor Saidi Balogun.

The star-studded event was the lavish birthday celebration for Oloflix boss, High Chief Olusola Obio. The guest list was a who's who of Nollywood and Nigeria’s music scene, including powerhouses like Saidi Balogun, Mercy Aigbe, Toyin Abraham, Yomi Fash Lanso, Jaiye Kuti and Femi Branch among other notable guests.

    Eedris Abdulkareem

However, the mood shifted when the renowned 'Nigeria Jaga Jaga' crooner, Eedris Abdulkarim, made his entrance. Known for his unflinching anti-establishment lyrics, Eedris initially refused to acknowledge Saidi Balogun, a staunch ally of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Mr. Balogun currently serves as a member of the Governing Council of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba Lagos, where he is the Chairman of the Physical Development and Project Monitoring Committee.

The fun atmosphere at birthday bash changed when Eedris took the stage for a performance, revisiting some of his classic tracks, including fan favorites from his 'Remedies' era. Midway through his set, he openly addressed the gathering, confirming the cold shoulder he gave the veteran actor despite their long-standing relationship.

Addressing Mr. Balogun directly, Eedris marveled at the actor's unshakeable commitment to the current administration. The rapper openly told the gathering that he refused to greet Saidi Balogun despite their having come a very long way from their younger years. He also gave him an unexpected accolade, saying he has always marvel at the actor's energy in defending and promoting anything that has to do with President Bola Tinubu. This, he described as unparalleled and novel.

Creating a moment of palpable silence, Eedris declared: “Balogun, you see me dey do like say I no see you? Na intentional. I need to get your attention for this very important national assignment.” He then elaborated on the actor's political gusto, stating: “Your loyalty to Aso Rock, my brother, is five-star. That kind commitment na film trick wey turn reality. We dey watch am!”

Using Balogun as his direct messenger, Eedris delivered his challenge to the Commander-in-Chief, giveing him a direct message to President Tinubu, asking Mr Balogun to tell the President that Nigerians are hungry and that Mr President should make haste to end the insecurity in the country.

Eedris further stated that if Mr Balogun fails to deliver his message to President Tinubu, it would mean that the veteran actor has done 'ojoro' (foul play).

The powerful message from Eedris left guests stunned but the situation was quickly maturely handled to prevent the birthday bash from becoming another political gathering or an avenue to vent anger against President Bola Tinubu's administration. The evening eventually returned to celebration, but the message delivered from the stage is likely to reverberate well beyond the party's walls.

General Musa Makes Demand as Senate Clears Him as New Defence Minister

The Nigerian Senate has approved the appointment of a former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defence after a five-hour interrogation by the legislators on Wednesday.

General Musa, who recently served as CDS, received confirmation from the lawmakers following his screening in the Senate chambers, just a day after President Bola Tinubu put his name forward for the role.

His screening took place amid a period of increased insecurity in Nigeria, where mass abductions, particularly of students in schools, have become a frequent occurrence. One notable case involved the kidnapping of 25 students in Maga, Kebbi State, accompanied by reports that troops left the scene moments before the attackers arrived.

General Musa stressed during the screening that one of his first actions would be to investigate the alleged withdrawal of the troops.

“We are going to go after them fully, working together with all the security agencies and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (of government),” the minister said at the event attended by his family members, among others.

“We are going to investigate fully. The Armed Forces have a way, and then from the defence, we are going to make sure that we continue with the oversight over their activities.”

President Bola Tinubu had nominated Musa as the new Minister of Defence on Tuesday, following the resignation of Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, the former minister.

Musa, who will turn 58 on December 25, served as Nigeria's chief of defence staff from 2023 until October 2025.

Serial Child Molester Re-Arrested in Lagos, Group Demands Justice

The Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation has raised alarm over the repeated sexual abuse of young boys in the Mile 12–Ketu area of Lagos, following the arrest of a 35-year-old man, Ali Umar, who was caught molesting a 12-year-old boy.

The foundation said it became aware of the situation during an outreach in the community, where residents revealed that Umar, who lives at 12 Adebimpe Street, Kosofe, had been previously caught abusing young boys. According to the community, he allegedly groomed victims by promising to buy them mobile phones, after which he lured them to his room and sexually assaulted them. On one occasion, he reportedly kept two boys in his room for two weeks before they were rescued by residents. He was released after pleading for forgiveness.

Ali Umar, suspect

However, on November 21, 2025, the suspect was allegedly caught again in the act with another 12-year-old boy and was beaten by community members.

Five days later, on November 26, the NGO received another distress call. Two of its social workers, John Thompson and Temitope Oyeniyi, working alongside officers from Ketu Police Station, apprehended Umar and handed him over to the police.

A medical examination conducted at the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, confirmed that the child victim had been sexually assaulted through the anus.

Umar was arraigned on November 28, 2025, before Magistrate O.A. Daodu and subsequently remanded in custody. The matter was adjourned to a later date.

Ambassador (Mrs.) Pat Isiorho-Eleto, CEO of the foundation, condemned the recurring assaults and assured that the organisation would ensure the case receives full legal attention without delay.

She also expressed deep appreciation to the Ketu Police Station for their prompt intervention, thanking the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Betty Coker, and the Divisional Police Officer for their swift and professional response. She added that the foundation looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the police to protect vulnerable children.

Meanwhile, the assaulted child is undergoing emotional and psychological counselling to aid recovery from the trauma.

The NGO and the victim’s family have appealed to the Lagos State Government to ensure that justice is served without delay.

Factional PDP Issues 'Certificates of Expulsion' To Wike, Anyanwu, Others

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued expulsion certificates to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other officials expelled at the last convention in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Addressing journalists after a meeting of the NWC on Tuesday in Abuja, National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, said the issue of expelled of members was discussed at the meeting.

Turaki explained that “We have taken note of the fact that Nigerian law frowns on dual membership of political parties, and so we have sought to make it easy for them. Now that they are no longer members of our party, and now that the National Convention which is the highest decision-making organ of our party has expelled them, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion.

“So that, when they go to register with other political parties in Nigeria, they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP, and so those parties will not accuse them of trying to belong to more than one political party.”

He said the certificates had been dispatched via courier to the 11 persons  namely, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Umaru Bature; Kamarudeen Ajibade,SAN, Abdurahman Muhammad; Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; Mr Austin Nwachukwu; Abraham Amah Nnanna; George Turna and Chief Dan Orbih.

Turaki said the move became necessary to allow Nigerians, particularly critical institutions involved in managing the affairs of political parties, especially INEC, and agencies managing security affairs in society to know their status.

He asked the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps and other government agencies should “know that these people are no longer members of our party. They have been expelled. They remain expelled. We have now certified their expulsion, and these certificates have been sent to them.”

He also went further to say that soon, members of the society will be informed “via proper disclaimers that any person henceforth who decides to do business with them any or all of them does so at his or her own risk. They are no longer members of the People’s Democratic Party. They have been expelled. You today are living witnesses to their certificates of expulsion. We hope that members of the PDP in Nigeria and the diaspora will know that the party has once again gotten rid of the cankerworms that have been afflicting and creating problems for us in our activities.

“We are now prepared to be saddled with the responsibility of performing our functions as the leading opposition party in Nigeria. We are going to provide a credible alternative to Nigerians. We are going to provide credible leadership to Nigerians by the special grace of God from 2027.”

Why Tinubu Picked Ex-CDS, Christopher Musa, As New Defence Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as the new Minister of Defence.

In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu conveyed General Musa’s nomination as the successor to Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned on Monday.

General Musa, 58, on December 25, is a distinguished soldier who served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025. He won the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.

Born in Sokoto in 1967, General Musa received his primary and secondary education there before attending the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria. He graduated in 1986 and enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy the same year, earning a Bachelor of Science degree upon graduation in 1991.

General Musa was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1991 and has since had a distinguished career. His appointments include General Staff Officer 1, Training/Operations at HQ 81 Division; Commanding Officer, 73 Battalion; Assistant Director, Operational Requirements, Department of Army Policy and Plans; and Infantry Representative/Member, Training Team, HQ Nigerian Army Armour Corps.

In 2019, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Training/Operations, Headquarters Infantry Centre and Corps; Commander, Sector 3, Operation Lafiya Dole; and Commander, Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Region.

In 2021, General Musa was appointed Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai. He later became Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps before being appointed Chief of Defence Staff by President Tinubu in 2023.

In the letter to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed confidence in General Musa’s ability to lead the Ministry of Defence and further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

Kemi Olokode-Ayelabola Lauds Tinubu For Appointing New Spy Chiefs

Chairperson and Convener of Asiwaju Renewed Hope (ARH’23), Kemi Olokode-Ayelabola has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing new intelligence chiefs to enhance the security architecture of Nigeria.

It is recalled that the President on Monday announced the appointments of Mohammed Mohamed as the Director-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Adeola Ajayi as the new Director-General for the Department of State Services (DSS).

Kemi, a behavioural, developmental and child/young persons care professional, gave the commendation to the President in a press statement she made available to newsmen on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

She expressed hope that the action of the president would position the security system to contain the raging kidnapping, terrorism, insurgency and bandidary which had ravaged the country.

She further commended the intelligence chiefs for working hard in the course of their careers to predispose themselves to be appointed to such high profile offices, advising them to see their new national assignments as a patriotic duty to write their names in gold and bring pride to their families if they perform as creditably as anticipated.

She charged them on the task ahead and urged them to be dedicated and committed to the ideals of the intelligence community, one of which is the promotion of intelligence gathering, monitoring and management as well as engendering modern diplomatic practices.

Her statement reads in parts, "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has again proved his mettle as a leader who is strong-willed to keep the security and intelligence architecture of the country in right track by appointing thoroughbred and patriotic Nigerians to be in charge of National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Department of State Services (DSS). This will truly mark the beginning of new expectations by Nigerians in efforts to tackle the country’s security challenges.

The action of the President would further position the security system to contain the raging kidnapping, terrorism, insurgency, and bandidary, which had ravaged the country. This latest development will also help to deepen career progression and boost officer's moral. It will also help to expand intelligence gathering, monitoring and management as well as citizen's engagement and accentuate modern diplomatic practices. It's a thing of joy for those of us in the diaspora that we now have a country that could be better secured internally and also outside the shores of Nigeria by committed individuals."

Edo Guber: APC Accuses PDP of Plot To Rig Poll

Afegbua

As the September 21 Edo State gubernatorial election draws closer, the Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) has on Tuesday alleged that it had uncovered a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig the election in favour of their candidate.

Prince Kassim Afegbua, director of media for the Edo APC campaign council made the allegations in a statement he made available to newsmen.

He alleged that the Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki was planning to use the Edo Security Network as a "gambit" to manipulate the election results.

Afegbua further alleged that APC had been inundated with calls from well meaning Edo electorates of PDP's game plan to use threat, intimidation and harassment to disenfranchise Edo voters from exercising their right during the September 21 gubernatorial poll.

He however called on all relevant security agencies to show proactive measures in mitigating the plot by the ruling party in the state.

The full statement reproduced hereunder:

"We, of the Edo State APC Campaign Council are hereby alerting the public, Edo electorates, and all others concerned, of the clandestine and surreptitious moves by the Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, to rig the forthcoming Edo Gubernatorial election using his illegal Edo Security Network as a gambit. We have been inundated with calls from well meaning Edo electorates of his game plan to use threat, intimidation and harassment to disenfranchise Edo electorates from exercising their right at the elections.

We had decried before, the State Government’s activities apropos of arms procurement. Edo State government has been recruiting even more hands into their illegal Edo Security Network, with the sole motive of empowering them for the underhand assignment of rigging the election by intimidation.

We are aware that the State Government has now started producing Police Uniforms and Military Uniforms which the members of the Edo Security Network will be made to wear on the said day of the election, to disguise as real police officers and military personnel; to assist them in carrying out their pernicious assignment. Some citizens with moral rectitude, who were invited for a briefing at the Government House on Monday, raised concerns about this plot and turned down the job offer.

The State Government is still arranging to procure more guns and other ammunition for them for the D-Day of the election. Before now, the Edo Security Network had started mounting illegal road-blocks and checkpoints across the state, posturing as Police and Military personnel: the APC campaigns in Akoko-Edo were attacked a couple of days back, and our supporters, acolytes and functionaries were also attacked at Ewohinmi area last week after our successful campaign outing.

By this statement, we are appealing to the Military Authority as well as the Nigeria Police, particularly to the Inspector General of Police to please come and rescue Edo State, immediately. We adjure these authorities to commission their men to carry out investigations concerning these serious allegations in order to act appropriately, and forestall the breakdown of law and order in Edo Stste. We have been besieged with serious complaints by our members, and other citizens of the need to be particularly overarching about the safety of theirs, and our lives and properties, in order for us all to successfully and peaceably exercise our franchise on the D-Day.

The fears are becoming disquieting hence our decision to alert the whole world of these sinister plots of Governor Godwin Obaseki. It is wrong, condemnable and abhorrent for a state government to be arming youths in the name of election. This is how the dreaded Boko Haram started, and has grown to become this juggernaut besetting Nigeria till date. We must avoid such a situation in Edo. It is incumbent on the security authorities to act with legerity, even if it comes to banning the Edo Security Network and also arresting those illegally in possession of firearms altogether. The needful need be done lest we allow a total breakdown of law and order in the state.

In the APC, we preach one man, one vote; in the exercise of the franchise of every eligible voter in the state. We are concerned that the state governor is deeply desperate and will espouse cutthroat gambits to plunge the state into avoidable crises should the odds be against him. Under a democracy, the freedom to choose is not only a sacrosanct but indeed the least requirement for the exercise to bear that name. Let us leave the power with the people. Governor Obaseki must be called to order immediately. We are for a peaceful process of election and nobody, no matter how highly placed, or in whatever station will intimidate, repress, or withstand us.

We are fervently calling on all concerned, to ensure that the election is devoid of bloodletting and killing by any party, by not leaving any wiggle room for artifice. A stitch in time, saves nine. The IGP and Military Authorities should please act on this with alacrity, to arrest this grave concern."

Matrix Energy's Legacy of Purity and Integrity

  Matrix Energy CEO

In the ever-competitive world of Nigeria's petroleum industry, success breeds both admiration and envy. For Abdulkabir Aliu, the Chief Executive Officer of Matrix Energy Limited, the latter has unfortunately manifested in recent unfounded allegations that his company has been importing substandard petroleum products. These accusations, however, are nothing more than the desperate ploys of saboteurs and detractors who seek to tarnish the sterling reputation that Matrix Energy has built over two decades of impeccable service.

Let's set the record straight: Matrix Energy has never, and will never, compromise on the quality of its products. As Aliu himself emphatically stated, "We have never brought in any product that is either hazardous or off-spec and we will never do that because we love this country." These are not just words; they are the guiding principles that have driven Matrix Energy to the forefront of Nigeria’s petroleum industry, making it a household name synonymous with quality, integrity, and reliability.

For 20 years, Matrix Energy has not only thrived but has set the gold standard for what it means to operate with excellence in the petroleum sector. Aliu, a banker-turned-businessman, has steered the company with an unwavering commitment to the highest standards, ensuring that every product that bears the Matrix Energy name is a testament to the company’s dedication to quality. The company leverages its deep market expertise and robust infrastructure to deliver only the best to its customers, who continue to place their trust in Matrix Energy year after year.

The rumors of substandard imports are nothing but the bitter fruits of envy, planted by those who wish to see Matrix Energy falter. These detractors, threatened by the company’s success and growth, have resorted to baseless smear campaigns in a bid to undermine the trust that the Nigerian public has in Matrix Energy. But Aliu and his team remain undeterred. With the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) rigorously monitoring and regulating the quality of petroleum products in the country, it is simply impossible for off-spec products to enter the market, let alone be associated with a reputable firm like Matrix Energy.

In a sector where shortcuts are tempting, Matrix Energy has consistently chosen the path of integrity. Marcel Leijzer, Manager of Technical Cooperation at the United Nations Tourism (UN Tourism), has praised the people of Ekiti State and Nigerians for their exceptional hospitality following his recent visit to the state.

Leijzer made these remarks during a press briefing organized by the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development in Lagos on the eve of the UN delegation's departure. He described the welcoming nature of Nigerians as "incredibly amazing" and emphasized its potential to significantly boost tourism in the region.

His visit, which spanned from August 17 to August 22, included a comprehensive assessment of over 20 tourism sites across Ekiti State. Some of the notable landmarks he explored were the Ekiti Parapo War Museum in Okemesi-Ekiti, the Ikogosi Warm Springs, Mount Golgotha in Efon-Alaye-Ekiti, Ogun Grove in Ire-Ekiti, Poroye Grove in Ijan, the source of the Osun River in Igede, Ewo War Relics in Ilupeju-Ekiti, the Adire Ekiti Hub, Orole Hill in Ikere-Ekiti, and the Sacred Fish Stream in Erinjiyan-Ekiti.

Other highlights of his tour included a visit to the unique palm tree with 42 heads in Ilogbo-Ekiti, the first mass center in Usi-Ekiti, and the sacred Olosunta Rock in Ikere-Ekiti. Throughout his journey, Leijzer was captivated by the state's diverse range of sites, from historical and cultural landmarks to natural wonders such as dramatic rock formations and waterfalls.

Leijzer also had the opportunity to experience the vibrant cultural life of Ekiti, particularly the Udiroko Festival in Ado-Ekiti. He noted, "It seems there is hardly a week without one or two celebrations."

Reflecting on his experience, Leijzer stated, "This visit to Ekiti was nothing short of amazing. The natural beauty, combined with the warmth and friendliness of the people, is unparalleled. I have been to 55 countries, and I have never encountered such naturally beautiful attractions."

He also outlined UN Tourism's objectives, stating, "Our goal is to deliver technical cooperation and build capacity within the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism. Federal Government To Shut Down Petrol Stations Selling Above N600 Per Litre

As Nigerians raise concerns about the high cost of the commodity by independent petrol dealers, the Federal Government has also vowed to shut down filling stations that will be caught dispensing PMS at exorbitant rates.

It declared this through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, stressing that it was not in the interest of Nigerians for marketers to profiteer in the sales of PMS.

Many filling stations operated by independent oil marketers have now fixed the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, at between N900 and N1,000/litre. Owners of these stations seem not to care about the cost of the product at retail outlets operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. Petrol prices at NNPC stations range from N568 to N617/litre. This often leads to queues at the stations.

But the NMDPRA official has noted that there was no way the agency could reconcile the high cost of petrol sold by independent marketers, warning marketers involved in profiteering to desist from the act while stressing that the agency would not fold its hands and allow operators to cheat Nigerians.

“Once we get these outlets, we are going to shut them down. NNPC tells us how much they sell and there is no way the pump prices should be that high. We don’t expect it to be higher than N650/litre," the NMDPRA spokesperson declared.

Due to the low supply from NNPC, private depot owners were said to have hiked the price of petrol as high as N850/litre. The depots sell to independent marketers, who could not get the product directly from the NNPC at about N570/litre like the major marketers.

In return, the independent marketers sell a litre of petrol to motorists and other Nigerians at prices ranging from N850 to N900 or even N1,000 in some remote areas.

However, the few major marketers that dispensed petrol, sold the product for N700 per litre. Many filling stations within the metropolis did not open to customers, as commercial intra-city bus operators increased their charges by 50 per cent due to the high cost of fuel.

Following this negative development, black marketers have fully returned to the business and are having a field day. PMS at the black market sells for N1200 and N1300.

Real Reason People Call Me Occultic -Dr Chris Okafor

When you facilitate joy in heaven, Elohim will in return of your commitment facilitate joy in your life.

This and more were some of the case studies highlighted by the Generational Prophet of God, Dr Chris Okafor, while teaching on the subject matter, "The Importance of Soul Winning and Evangelism" at the Divine intervention and breakthrough service of Grace Nation held at the international headquarters of the church in Ojodu Berger, Lagos State, Nigeria.

The clergyman said what makes heaven joyous the most is soul winning, adding that when you win soul into the kingdom of God, Elohim recognizes you because He will stand by you in the days of need.

The popular prophet highlighted why soul-winning is very important to God. He said soul winning is important because there are limited time, and no time. He said people need to do what they need to do on time because of the restlessness of the enemies and the saying that the best way to live a better life is to live for God.

The Generational Prophet of God said, if you attend to what is close to the heart of God, He will attend to what is close to your heart too.

Dr Chris Okafor also remarked that if you bear the burden of God, He will bear your burdens too, therefore when you do what makes heaven happy, joy and happiness shall be evidential in your life.

While dedicating miracle babies at the service, Dr Okafor blessed a bouncing baby boy after his parents had waited on the Lord for 27 years, while another parents waited for 17 years. Not until they located Grace Nation when their story changed and God used His servant to break the years of barrenness. There was also a mother who was pregnant with triplets. Indeed, Dr Okafor is occultic!

How Alimosho LG Chairman, Jelili Suleimon, Escapes Impeachment *Lagos Assembly wades in

What would have resulted in the removal of the Alimosho Local Government chairman, Jelili Suleimon, was on Monday prevented by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Lawmakers had suggested on the floor of the House that the council chairman be removed or suspended for 'stubbornly disrespecting' the House and refusing to obey its resolutions concerning toll collections in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Alimosho.

One person had been killed on April 16, 2024, when fracas occurred in Iyana-Ipaja over allegations that council chairman forcefully withdrew the collection of revenues from Abiodun Ejigbadero and handed same to a man allegedly loyal to him.

After what a member of the House, Hon. Sa'ad Olumoh, described as a painstaking two months investigation in which all parties to the issue were invited, the Assembly directed Jelili to return Ejigbadero, who was able to present all the vital documents requested during the inquiries.

However, the lawmakers surprisingly received a letter from the secretary to the Alimosho Local Government council, Dare Ogunkoya, stating that the chairman cannot obey the resolutions of the House concerning the matter.

The letter read by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, said any action by the council chairman on the resolutions of the House would be contentious.

Reacting to the letter, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, who chaired the committee that investigated the crisis, described Jelili as a stubborn chairman who would go any length to debase the House.

He recalled that in resolving the matter, the committee invited all the stakeholders including Jelili, who the committee discovered to be the cause of the mayhem.

Okanlawon said while Jelili could not provide any documents, Ejigbadero produced all documents to prove his position as toll collector in the place.

According to Okanlawon, Jelili had remained "defiant and, to say the least, this is an affront against the House that had resolved the issue."

He urged the House to invoke the right section of the law against the council chairman as a deterrent.

In his contribution, Majority Leader Noheem Adams, said the letter by Ogunkoya undermines the authority of the House which sought peace in the affected area.

Deputy Majority Leader Adedamola Kasunmu told his colleagues, "I can attest to his (Jelili's) stubbornness. He has shown incompetence and irresponsibility. For us to avert further loss of lives, it is good that he is either immediately removed or suspended."

In their individual contributions, the two lawmakers from Alimosho, Hon. Kehinde Joseph and Luqman Orelope, pleaded with the House for leniency on the council chairman.

The duo expressed surprise that the council could disobey the House in such a manner, while Joseph urged that the chairman could be suspended instead of an outright removal.

While noting all the contributions, Dr. Obasa wondered why Alimosho is always enmeshed in crises adding that the resolution by the House was to ensure peace in the community.

Pacifying the lawmakers, Dr. Obasa said the chairman should be given the benefit of doubt since the letter was not directly written by him and, as such, he could claim ignorance.

He, therefore, directed the Clerk to resend the resolutions of the House to the council chairman, the Local Government Service Commission and other top officials of the Alimosho Local Government council.

Discover the New Property Hotspots: Why More Buyers are Choosing Adron Homes

In recent years, a significant shift in where people choose to call home has been quietly reshaping the property market. From bustling cities to serene suburban towns, the narrative of homeownership is being rewritten as more individuals and families seek out new environments that offer a better quality of life, more space, and a stronger sense of community. At the forefront of this transformation is Adron Homes, a real estate company that has not only recognized these emerging trends but has positioned itself as the premier choice for discerning buyers.

The idea of "home" has evolved, especially in the wake of global events that have made people reevaluate their priorities. The shift toward remote work, the desire for more personal space, and a renewed focus on wellness have led to a surge in demand for properties in areas that were once considered off the beaten path. Suburban towns, smaller cities, and even rural locales are experiencing a renaissance, with people flocking to these areas for a variety of reasons:

1. Space and Affordability: As property prices in major cities continue to soar, buyers are increasingly looking for alternatives that offer more bang for their buck. Suburban and rural areas often provide larger homes at a fraction of the cost, allowing families to enjoy more space without compromising on quality.

2. Quality of Life: The hustle and bustle of city life, once a draw for many, is now being traded for the peace and tranquility of quieter neighborhoods. With less traffic, lower crime rates, and a closer connection to nature, these areas offer a slower pace of life that appeals to those looking to escape the stress of urban living.

3. Community and Connection: In these new property hotspots, there is often a stronger sense of community. Neighbors know each other, local businesses thrive, and there's a shared commitment to preserving the character of the area. This sense of belonging is a significant draw for those looking to put down roots.

4. Remote Work Flexibility: The rise of remote work has untethered many workers from the office, giving them the freedom to live wherever they choose. This newfound flexibility has opened up a world of possibilities, with many opting to live in areas that offer a better work-life balance.

As the property market shifts and new hotspots emerge, one name consistently stands out as the go-to option for buyers: Adron Homes. With a reputation for excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction, Adron Homes is more than just a real estate company; it’s a partner in your journey to finding the perfect home.

Proper Use Of Tax Revenues Will Enhance Tax Morale And Compliance -FIRS

Muhammad Nami, FIRS boss

When governments deploy tax revenues for the common good of the citizens, there is a concomitant increase in tax compliance by citizens who see the direct benefit of the taxes they pay.

This was the position held by the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Muhammad Nami during his opening remarks at the launch of the Public Finance Database by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum at the Wells Carlton Hotel, in Abuja, on Tuesday, last week.

Mr. Nami argued that the low compliance tax rate in most developing countries was as a result of the failure of the social contract between the taxpayers and the government, noting that those in political leadership in the country had a duty to promote a tax-paying culture by relating projects and infrastructural developments executed by them to taxes paid by taxpayers.

“Taxpayers need to see what has been done with their money to be encouraged to continue to pay their obligations under the Social Contract they have with the government.

“I am delighted that one of the sessions focuses on the tax-for-service programmes as they impact tax revenues. This issue is dear to us as tax administrators as there is a nexus between the effective utilization of tax revenue and tax compliance,” he stated.

“The low level of tax compliance in developing countries can be attributed to the failure of the social contract between the taxpayers and the government. It is expected that if the citizens are committed to paying taxes, the government should be committed to using the taxes for the common good of all citizens.”

The FIRS boss further argued that projects funded by taxpayers’ moneys should be reported as such and not personalized so that citizens would begin to relate these projects as the proceeds of their taxes.

“Those in political leadership should promote the tax-paying culture by relating projects and infrastructural developments executed by them to tax.

“The government at all levels are doing a lot with taxpayers’ money but citizens do not easily appreciate these facts because of the way and manner the projects are reported.

“There is the need to de-emphasize and de-personalize projects so that the citizens will begin to relate all the ongoing laudable projects in the states to tax revenue. This singular act to a great extent will increase the tax morale and enhance compliance.”

Mr. Muhammad Nami, an advocate for a harmonized tax system as a cure for tax revenue leakages used the platform to call for the country to make a bold paradigm shift by harmonizing the country’s tax system to optimize tax revenue collection.

“Recently, there has been a clamour for a holistic review of our tax system. Its proponents, including myself argue that if Nigeria must achieve its tax revenue potentials as the fulcrum of economic development, a harmonisation of our tax system must be undertaken.

“Tax harmonisation for enhanced revenue generation, which was the theme of the 2nd National Tax Dialogue was carefully chosen to reiterate the need for us as a nation to rethink the current tax system being operated.

“There was a consensus at the dialogue that Nigeria needs a transition to a unified tax administration as practised globally by most of the efficient and effective tax jurisdictions that have achieved optimum tax revenue collection.

“Certainly, there is no gainsaying that if Nigeria must be less dependent on external borrowing and buffer from the volatility and dwindling oil revenue, there should be a paradigm shift. Beyond politics and sentiment, the country should be willing to make those bold and hard but beneficial tax reforms and there is no better time than now, if we must avert the looming debt crisis. The gains from a harmonised tax system far outweigh the fears expressed in some quarters, if dispassionately analysed.”
